Daddy

I miss my dad.  Even when I see him,
he is not there.  What has taken over
is a mental man suffering from heartache
and nowhere dreams.  A life
of past accomplishments -
football passes, minuscule film roles, beautiful babies.
He is as sad as only the sad man
can understand.  He is the way I wrote
his imaginary character, the belly
still curving outward with loss of
hunger and a sorrow so deep even
the porch swing looses meaning.
